We’re Celebrating Percy Grainger’s Legacy—Join In!
Each year, the Percy Grainger Society joins in the global #GivingTuesday movement designed to keep the spirit of giving alive during the holiday season. This year, Giving Tuesday is:
Tuesday, December 3, 2024
Again, we have a match, and that’s just the start.
Our Mission Continues
For over 60 years, the Percy Grainger Society has highlighted Grainger’s achievements in the world of music and the arts. These are unprecedented times, but the Society's commitment to preserving the Grainger legacy is unwavering. Your contribution, no matter the size, will help the society continue to:
- Support membership programming and activities, and the publication and distribution of The Grainger Journal.
- Bring history to life for visitors (virtual and in-person) and allow for public programs in the arts and humanities (such as our Spring Open House each year in April, complete with a concert and house tours).
- Support ongoing repair and restoration of the Percy Grainger Home and Studio, and contribute to our efforts to care for and document the collection.
Mission Multiplied
Not only is every dollar matched, but every dollar also multiplies! Your help allows us to provide services, take risks, and complete programs not otherwise possible. Once doubled, donations provide much needed support that the Society can apply to needs, projects, and programs.
Projects often cost more than the original estimate. For example, when we repaired Percy’s harmonium our crowdfunding campaign did not cover the additional expenses due to unexpected repair needs. Giving Tuesday funding allowed us to continue, even when we exceeded the Kickstarter Campaign funds. Same with repairing the ceiling in the living room, there are always unforeseen costs when you begin a project in a historic house.
Similarly, grants are essential to help subsidize projects, but often require additional funds as well as materials and administrative time. Our grant through the Pomeroy Fund for NY State History allowed for the restoration of the Percy Grainger Home and Studio dining room, but the grant did not cover the expense for the period wallpaper or painting of the walls and ceiling in the adjacent butler’s pantry. Giving Tuesday funds were essential to supplement the historic preservation grant.
As our membership program ramps up, the website—the cost of which is mostly, but not completely covered by membership dues—grows in its importance and requires care and revisions.
We wouldn’t have taken the chance to re-start The Grainger Journal without knowing that we could finance future issues. Expanding our resources with GLOSS, the Grainger Library of Sampled Sounds, we have more curriculum focused on Percy Grainger and music composition, but funding is needed. Your support is essential to propel the Percy Grainger Society forward.
