Membership HappeningsJennifer Martin to Present at the Midwest Clinic
We are thrilled to announce that PGS member Jennifer Martin will present a Grainger-focused session at this year’s Midwest Clinic in Chicago! Her session, titled Grainger to the Fore! The Percy Grainger Manuscripts: Resources for Insuring Error-Free and Historically Accurate Performances, offers practical research tools to aid score study, enhance rehearsal preparation, and improve performances of Percy Grainger’s works using manuscript scores of Grainger’s music. Jennifer has established a strong foundation through her research locating Grainger’s manuscripts at the British Library, the Library of Congress, the Sibley Library of the Eastman School of Music, the Morgan Library NY City, and the Percy Grainger Home and Studio.
This year, the Midwest Clinic is scheduled for December 18–21 at McCormick Place West in Chicago, Illinois. Jennifer will present her session on Thursday, December 19 from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM in W179. For additional information, follow this link to Jennifer’s session listing on the Midwest Clinic website. Jennifer’s research into the locations of Grainger’s manuscripts can be found in the resources section of the PGS website here.

At the Home & StudioNew GLOSSworks by Andrew Hugill
In his ongoing work as Project Consultant for the the Grainger Library of Sampled Sound (GLOSS), Professor Andrew Hugill has created two new GLOSSworks: Grainger Gamelan and Free Country.
Grainger Gamelan utilizes samples and sounds of the Percy Grainger Home and Studio to create a gamelan orchestra. The piece uses piano and harmonium to create the main tune while incorporating staff bells, right hand piano, and xylophone for accompaniment. Percussive elements are established through the use of sounds from lighting fixtures and pieces of furniture. Free Country opens with a recording of Grainger at the piano and features instruments built by Grainger as well as several samples from the GLOSS collection. Hugill writes, "Free Country takes the listener on a sonic journey from Percy Grainger's most famous composition, Country Gardens, to the electronic 'Free Music' that he created at White Plains during the last decades of his life.” Learn more and listen to the works through this link to Andrew’s website.
