November 2022

Feature of Note

Hey – What's Giving Tuesday?

Why is it so important to the Society?

Each year, the Percy Grainger Society joins in the #GivingTuesday global generosity movement. This year, #GivingTuesday is November 29, 2022 – and again, we have a match! Matching gifts multiply ever dollar given, allowing us to provide services, take risks, and complete programs not otherwise possible.

Projects like the repair of Percy's harmonium often exceed cost estimates. When the harmonium crowdfunding campaign surpassed its goal yet still fell short due to unexpected expenses, #GivingTuesday donations allowed the project to continue. Funds raised on #GivingTuesday also closed a gap in grant funding from the Pomeroy Fund for NY State History to complete the dining room restoration at the Grainger Home and Studio. Learn more about how you can propel the Percy Grainger Society forward on #GivingTuesday.

Membership Happenings

Membership and Program Committee Meeting Review

The Membership and Programs Committee Meeting was held on October 22, 2022. The Committee plans to meet twice a year (October and March) and has scheduled the spring meeting for March 11, 2023, at 11 am EST. Composed of Percy Grainger Society members who represent a wide variety of sectors (orchestral, band, choral, keyboard). The Membership and Program Committee determines an annual theme around which programs are built and considers other pertinent projects. Grainger's choral works are the focus of early 2023 programming. With a wide range of potential projects in discussion, the Committee welcomes new members. Contact Committee Chair Bill Garlette for additional information at bill@percygrainger.org.

Volunteer Spotlight

Tour Guide Informational Session

With Giving Tuesday just around the corner, we are reminded that volunteering is another way to support the Percy Grainger Society's mission. For those living in the White Plains area, one of the most exciting opportunities is volunteering as a tour guide to share the Grainger House and legacy with visitors. We have a steady stream of Grainger enthusiasts visiting from near and far, especially during the summer (tours are usually arranged on Wednesdays or Sunday afternoons). For some visitors, the experience is a once-in-a-lifetime pilgrimage to see how the maestro lived and worked.

Interested in becoming a volunteer tour guide? Join us for an informational session at the Grainger House on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 1:00 pm EST
