Gift Recognizes Two Musical Legacies: Delius and Grainger

Delius Society Gift

As the chairman of the Frederick Delius Society for more than forty years, Bill Marsh played a pivotal role in advancing the Delius Society’s mission. His leadership was characterized by a relentless pursuit of generating interest, expanding membership, and introducing lesser-known Delius works to a new audience. Recently, he donated a collection of significant items from the collection of the Delius Society to the Percy Grainger Society.

Commenting on the gift, Marsh shared, “I’m delighted these items have found a home at the Percy Grainger Home and Studio. This is truly a fitting place for this collection, and this gift continues a harmonious blend of two musical legacies.” Percy Grainger Society President, Paul Jackson, added, “This acquisition underscores the importance of Delius’s and Grainger’s shared musical vision. We will now be reworking our display of The Frankfurt Five based on this new material.”

Each new addition to the collection is a valuable part of the Percy Grainger Society’s mission to preserve and augment the legacy. Follow this link to read the full article on the Delius Society donation.

Mourns the Loss of
Dr. David Tall

David Tall

The Percy Grainger Society is deeply saddened by the passing of David Tall, a founding member of the UK Percy Grainger Society, a forerunner of the current society.  Alongside Barry Ould, David played a pivotal role in establishing the UK Percy Grainger Society on June 16, 1978 at the British Music Information Center in London.

David's dedication to the society was unwavering, serving as the editor of The Grainger Journal for many years. His passion for the music of Percy Grainger and his commitment to preserving and promoting Grainger's legacy were unparalleled.

In addition to his contributions to the society, David was a highly respected academic, serving as a professor of mathematics at the University of Warwick for many years. His intellect, dedication, and kindness touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
